Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have a studio?
No, I currently do not have a studio. Photos can be taken outdoors at a location such as a park, beach,
promenade, or in your own home.
I'm a first time client. Why can't we meet at my house for our family session?
With my experience, young children are just "too comfortable" at home for a first session. I'm a new face and they tend to pay less attention to taking photographs in their home than in a neutral location. Also, it's for safety - yours and mine. This is our first encounter with each other (unless we've met in person). I'm sure you're just as uneasy giving a stranger your home address as I am meeting someone at their house.
When is the ideal time for newborn portraits?
Newborns are best photographed in the first 2 weeks of birth. They tend to be very sleepy and very "poseable"
which makes for adorable photographs!
How does a newborn session work? What if my baby arrives early or later than expected?
Don't worry! Just let me know, as soon as you can, when your baby has arrived and we can schedule a
convenient time for both of us. Babies arrive on their own time and I plan ahead for wiggle room!
Do you supply props?
Yes, for a newborn session I arrive with a variety of props, such as blankets, headbands, hats, ballet shoes, tutus,
baskets, a tiny baby bed, and even a baby buggy! But if you have a special outfit or blanket you wish to incorporate please let me and I will be more than happy to include it/them in shots!
For a maternity session, I can bring pink or blue ribbon to tie around your belly, a fresh flower, a pink or blue balloon. I recommend bringing a sonogram photo and baby shoes you may already have.
How do I dress for our session?
I recommend clothing that does not have any logos or loud patterns. Family members should compliment each other (think coordinating, not matching). Choose items with good color, texture and accessories. You are also welcome to bring changes of clothing.
Newborns will generally be photographed in the nude, or in a diaper. Onesies may also be used, preferably white or solid colored. But if you have a special outfit we can most certainly photograph your baby in it.
Oh no! What happens if my baby soils the set?
Don't panic, it happens and I am very used to it. I recommend having several receiving blankets on hand
that can be used and washed later in case of soiling. All my props and blankets are washed and sanitized,
before and after each session.
